The word "like" can be used in many ways. Have you ever wondered what's the difference between "like", "be like" and "look like"?


  • LIKE

(verb) it is used to talk about tastes and preferences.

Eg. What does she like? She likes to eat hotpot. (describing preferences)


  • BE LIKE

(preposition) "Like" + (verb) "Be"- it is used to ask for and give general descriptions.

Eg. What is she like? She's kind, honest and trustworthy. (describing personality)


  • LOOK LIKE

(preposition) 'like' + (verb) 'look' - is used to ask for and give an opinion about appearance.

Eg. What does she look like? She's tall, skinny girl with a short hair. (describing physical appearance)
